Founded around 3800 BC, Uruk is the first metropolis of man.

Founded around 3800 BC, Uruk is the first metropolis of mankind. Located in the Fertile Crescent, Uruk is the city where it all began. Here the first writing was found, and this place is supposed to be the cradle of the first royal administration and laws in history.

From 2652 to 2602 BC the legendary king Gilgamesh ruled here. With his friend Enkidu he defeated monsters, demons and warded off dangers from the city. Apparently, the first city wall was built then.

It took 1000 more years until Babylon rose and became the world’s most important city.
