Why do we need diversity?
Experts can only estimate how much diversity there is on our earth, because not all animal species have yet been discovered and described. What is certain, however, is that biodiversity has declined sharply in recent decades.
Experts can only guess how much diversity we have on our earth, because not all animal species have been discovered and described yet. However, it is certain that biodiversity has decreased significantly in the last decades, mainly due to human intervention.
The International Red List of Threatened Species shows endangered animals and plants. Unfortunately, this list is getting longer and longer. The Red List does not only include wild animals such as frogs, butterflies and bats, but also many farm animal breeds. Approximately 8,800 farm animal breeds are recorded worldwide, and many of them are threatened with extinction.
In this picture you can see the variety of farm animal breeds of Arche Warder. We are committed to preserving diversity. Because diversity is important: the less diversity there is in a system, the more vulnerable it becomes. This applies to our earth: Nothing is more constant than change. If living conditions change, e. g. due to climate change, then diversity guarantees survival.
There have been five major mass extinctions in the history of our earth. A well-known example is the extinction of the dinosaurs. But each time a new diversity developed from surviving species. Diversity is important for our planet – let’s protect it! In wild animals and farm animal breeds.
