Hunter

A Paleolithic hunter tells of his life during the last Ice Age in Europe.

I am a Paleolithic hunter. I lived 14,000 years ago. That was the last ice age in Europe. It was very cold. Everyone in our group had to help ensure our survival. My dog also helps me when I’m out hunting and keeps me warm at night.

Our main prey when hunting are reindeer and wild horses. Every now and then one of our hunters even kills a bear. We hunt reindeers and wild horses together in a group, otherwise you won’t get them, because they are too fast. We use harpoon-like spears with horn or flint tips. Some of us also have a spear thrower that can be used to throw the spear very far. We process hides and skins of animals into leather and fur for our clothing.
