At least 45,000 years ago humans started making cave paintings. They mainly painted hunted animals such as wild horses and aurochs.

At least 45,000 years ago humans started making cave paintings. They mainly show hunted animals such as wild horses and aurochs.

Whether these pictures were painted for religious or decorative reasons, or whether they tell stories of hunting, we will probably never find out. The paintings on cave walls were partly abstract, partly lively and realistic. The quality of the illustrations required a very good observation of animals and a high level of artistic ability.

In some cases, the artists of that time „signed“ their works with negative impressions of their hands.
